It’s not an uncommon sight to walk into a creative agency and see earbuds draped from the ears of each designer. MMG is no exception. Our space inside a historic church in Chicago allows everyone their own space. While we keep music on in the building through our Sonos, we each have our individual go-to for focusing at our desk.
In the office, we use Pandora to keep sound in the background at all times. On most Fridays, you’d find a Disney-themed channel on. This tradition was started a while ago by one of our coworkers and has stuck as a fun way to keep things light around the office.
Angelica likes to use TuneIn.com to listen to radio stations, podcasts and news from all around the world. They offer the ability to search for stations by location, so there’s lots of variety. Her favorites include Classic Rock, Alternative Rock, Spanish music and talk shows from Colombia. To mix it up, sometimes she opts for stations in Italy and other countries.
Renuka and Alex both love using Audible to pass the time at work. Though she listens to all sorts of genres, Renuka’s favorites are fantasy and comedian biographies. Some current choices include The Kingkiller Chronicle series and Bossypants by Tina Fey.
Alex loves the Harry Potter series and has listened through the whole collection multiple times. Although lately she’s been enjoying the mystery series following the life of PI Cormoran Strike (The Cuckoo’s Calling, The Silkworm, Career of Evil).
We all have our favorite artists and go-to playlists, using mostly Spotify or Apple Music to listen. Dan opts for a random mix of songs from artists he’s starred on Spotify over time, including Twenty One Pilots, Alabama Shakes, MGMT and The Wombats.
Renuka has music she goes to when she needs motivation, featuring the likes of Janelle Monáe, Garbage, Sleater-Kinney and Jessica Hernandez and the Deltas.
Alex has a wide variety of tastes for daily music, ranging from the scores of her favorite movies and TV shows (Doctor Who and The Flash) to albums from Kendrick Lamar, Coldplay, DNCE and Michael Bublé.
